One way in which we look after our own personal pennies (or at least cents), is to constantly evaluate our monthly expenses.  Car, home and all risks insurance is one of our monthly expenses that gets a thorough going over every 2 to 3 months.

One thing we’ve learned with experience is to never be swayed by the promise of ‘Cash back’ on your household insurance. Because after all, it’s only YOUR money they’re giving back to you – and at least if the money is in your bank account in the first place, you are the one earning the credit interest on it, not the insurance company. So don’t be taken for a ride by so called ‘favours’ that they’re doing you by paying you a portion of your own premiums back for ‘non-claiming’ for X number of years.

Every 2 to 3 months you should be getting insurance quotes, for your car and household insurance – and try to get them to reduce the premium by combining the two. There is also no need to have two separate insurers, for two separate cars, you will definitely save costs by bundling all your insurance needs to one company.

Just remember to re-evaluate and get insurance quotes from at least 3 other companies every  few months, because your existing insurer will either offer you a reduced premium to get you to stay (make sure they don’t increase your excess in an effort to do that) OR the new companies will offer you a lower premium in an attempt to get you to join their company.

Bottom line? Be smart with your money and make companies beg from YOU for a change.

The problem with the el cheapo hosting, is that they usually penalize you on bandwith, (local hosting companies are particularly guilty of this) they limit your access bandwidth to something ridiculous like 100mb. Which means that if your website or online shop or blog gets popular – they cut off access to your website once you reach that threshold of 100mb.

How crazy is that?

So if you’re looking for a good web hosting deal – make sure they offer the following at the very least…

  • Unlimited Storage
  • Unlimited Bandwith
  • Unlimited Domain hosting (host as many sites as you like)
  • At least 25 mySQL databases (these are the things that blogs/galleries/online shops sit on)
  • Unlimited Email boxes
  • Integrated Tools such as Install Central or Magnifico so that you can install your own apps/galleries/Wordpress etc.

This is just a short summary of the really important stuff – although most hosting providers worth their salt will offer a great deal of additional features also.

I know I did.

Small Office Wishes

Do you remember a book called “Bedknobs and Broomsticks” ? I distinctly remembers seeing the movie too, when I was little, the movie was old, for even back then.

Here’s what I remember.

There were these kids, and they discovered that just by sitting on this great old brass bedstead, and turning one of the knobs on the end of it – it would suddenly become magic, begin to glow, and they could travel to far away and exciting places.

Now, as a freelancer, whose mind is prone to wandering at the best of times (thank you ADHD) I think I’d like something similar, only because it’s in my home office, it could be as simple as a magic door knob!

I could swivel it – to make it glow hot and bright and WHOOSH my magic genie assistant would appear and handle all of my administration, leaving me free to continue working on my projects. Or it would magically bring me coffee, and snacks. Or something.

Moving to Las Vegas?

One always thinks of Las Vegas as a place that you visit. A girls weekend. A guys weekend. A stag night, a hens party etc.

But rarely do we stop and think of it as a living breathing city where people actually live and work. Go to college, attend grade school etc.

Moving to or from Las Vegas, would require Las Vegas movers to help you get your stuff in and out with ease.
